Our summer season is far too hot to take any chances with the overall operational quality of our air conditioners. That is why it is so important that you are able to spot the signs of trouble with your AC before the situation gets too out of hand. Some signs of air conditioning problems are more obvious than others, and water pooling around the unit is one of the clearest signs that there is a problem. If you are serious about protecting the integrity of your air conditioner, contact us to schedule [air conditioning repairs in Boca Raton, FL](https://allproelectricalandac.com/air-conditioning/ac-repair) at the first sign of trouble.

### Where's the Water Coming From?

There is a good chance that the water in the vicinity of your air conditioning system is not actually indicative of a leak. Why? Because an air conditioner does not actually use water in its operation. So where is the water coming from? One possibility is that your evaporator coil is icing up, and this could be a sign of serious trouble. In the evaporator coil, refrigerant evaporates in order to absorb heat from the air passing over it. If there is a refrigerant leak in your system, the coil may get so cold as to freeze the condensate that collects on it, resulting in the development of ice. When this ice melts, it can give the appearance of a leaking system. It is also possible that you have a very dirty air filter in your system, and that this air filter is reducing airflow and leading to the icing. This may be a less serious problem, but only a trained professional can truly diagnose the issue. Another potential source of the "leak" is a backed up condensate drain line, or even just a misaligned drain pan. When your AC is cooling your home, it draws moisture out of the air. That moisture is drained away as condensation via the condensate drain assembly. If the drain backs up or is knocked out of place, the water can wind up all over your floor, instead.
